Kid’s “Fun” Fantasy Football


2nd - 8th Grade


The FSRC staff would like to offer a youth fantasy football league for boys and girls in the 2nd - 8th grade beginning the first week of regular season NFL football games.  Participants will have the opportunity to pick out their favorite quarterback, running backs, wide receivers, tight end, kicker and defensive team each week and compete in a league.  Forms will need to be picked up at BRCC and returned before each weeks first football game.  The NFL players with the best statistics ranked by ESPN will receive points.  Points will be calculated each week and posted at BRCC.   Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 finishers at the end of the season!


Rules and forms can be picked up at the Buck Run Community Center beginning September 5th.

Come by the BRCC beginning Monday, January 29th and sign up for our Superbowl Challenge.   Winners will be awarded prizes.

"March Madness”

 Bracket Buster Contest


2nd - 8th Grade


Come by the BRCC beginning Monday, March 12th and pick up a March Madness NCAA Basketball Bracket.  Fill it out and return it before the first game is played.  The top 5 individuals that do the best on the selection of games throughout the tournament will be awarded prizes.

NO School!                                        NO Problem!


The Fort Scott Recreation Commission is offering activities for the youth to enjoy while they are out of school.  Staff will supervise and organize the game or activities for the youth to get exercise, socialize and have fun!  These activities will take place on Oct 20th, Jan 15th, Feb 19th & March 9th. Any boy or girl (ages 7  - 12 years) are invited to participate.  A supervisor will organize the participants and divide up the teams where everyone will receive equal amount of playing time.  Parents do not need to be present for these activities.  Fee is $1.00 per person! The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon each date.



Oct. 20th - Walk the Trails @ Gunn Park

Jan. 16th - Indoor Whiffle ball @ BRCC

Feb. 20th - Dodge ball @ BRCC

March 10th - Kickball @ BRCC or Fisher South Field



Youth Football Challenge


Boys and Girls  ages 7 -  12 yrs will compete against their peers in punting, passing and running.  This event will take place in the afternoon of the last home football game. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.

36th Annual Spelling Bee


Saturday, March 3rd



This friendly competition is for 1st through 5th graders.  Preliminary rounds will take place in individual classrooms.  The top spellers in each classroom will meet for the final round in the Buck Run Community Center Auditorium.  This challenging activity is set for Saturday, March 3rd, beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Call 223-0386 for additional information.






Holiday Crafts!


The Fort Scott Recreation Commission and the Fort Scott Middle School Pride  are offering the following craft programs for pre-schoolers - 5th Grade.  These programs are designed for the youth to construct basic crafts using their hands.  Each workshop will be held at the Buck Run Community Center and have various craft projects, face painting, snacks and drinks.  Please pre-register at the Buck Run Community Center to allow for adequate supplies.  A $1.00 registration fee will be charged for each participant.

Pumpkin Carving Contest


Saturday, October 28th


Get into the spirit of Halloween with this special event.  Each adult/child team will pick their very own pumpkin to carve.  Donated prizes will be given for the scariest, most unusual and funniest  pumpkin. Contest is set for Saturday, October 28th from 1 - 3 p.m. At 3 p.m., pumpkins will be lit and displayed as the judging will begin.  Pumpkins, candles, and carving knife will be provided.  This program is for youth 3 - 12 years & adult partner.  Fee is $3.00 per team



22nd Annual Turkey Shoot


Sunday, November 19th



Shoot free-throws and win a turkey to enjoy for your Thanksgiving dinner.  Kids - grab a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian for this chance.  Each child and adult will shoot 25 free-throws each. The adult/child team scoring the highest in each age group wins a turkey!  Pre-registration is necessary.

Parents Holiday Getaway


Saturday, December 16th



Parents…… This is your chance to shop, bake or relax while the staff at BRCC entertain your children.  Activities include making Christmas Crafts, Cookie Decorating, Christmas Movies, dodge ball and more.  We will even include a relaxation/nap time after lunch to recharge our batteries.  Please eat breakfast prior to drop off and bring a sack lunch.  Dinner (pizza) will be provided along with snacks throughout the day.

Santa Letters


The Fort Scott Recreation Commission has a special mailbox that will allow letters to be sent directly to the North Pole.  Letters need to have a “Return Address” so Santa can write back.  The special mailbox is located in the lobby of BRCC.  This program is free of charge.

Santa Calls


The Fort Scott Recreation Commission has a direct line to the North Pole!  Either Mr. or Mrs. Claus will call the boys and girls of Fort Scott and talk with them about their pets, siblings, chores, wish list and if they’ve been naughty or nice.   Registration for calls may be taken over the phone beginning December 1st by calling 223-0386 or by stopping by the BRCC. 


Calls will be made on

December 6th & 13th.

This is a FREE program.

The Fort Scott Recreation Commission is hosting the 2017 Corporate Laugh Olympics and would like to encourage organizations to participate.  The Olympics will be held on  April 22nd, 24th, & 26th.  The cost is $150.00 per team.  $100.00 of each entry fee will be donated to Bourbon County United Way.


Come by the Buck Run Community Center, 735 Scott Ave. to pick up your team’s information packet.  The Coaches Organization meeting is set for Wednesday, March 29th at 6:00 p.m.  You will have a great time and your donation will benefit a worthy organization!  Call 223-0386 for additional information.

Location: Ellis Park Fields

Divisions: 6 & 4 Co-ed Teams

Prizes: 1st Place t-shirts


1st Inning: Hit with a wooden bat  - (Bats Provided)

2nd Inning: Each batter starts with a 3-2 count

3rd Inning: Hit with a wooden bat again

4th Innng: Batters bat opposite handed and defense picks position randomly

5th Inning: Run bases in reverse order

6th Inning: Normal rules apply


6 innings or 55 minute time limit with visiting team getting 1/2 run to avoid extra innings.


All proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network





Dragoon Charge - 5K Run or Walk

(New Time—Will Kick off the Parade!!!!)


This annual road race is kicking off the annual parade on Friday, June 2nd. A 5K run or walk will begin at the front of (6th & Main) at approximately 5:45 p.m.  Fees are $10 prior to race day and $15 the day of the race from 5:15 - 5:45 p.m. The race route will take you down Main Street going north toward the new Riverfront trails in Fort Scott. The complete route will be explained prior to the race.


Age division include 16 and under, 17-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus.  Medals go to the top male and female finishers in each division.   Each runner/walker will receive a t-shirt with their entry fee.

Each batter will have 10 swings out of 15 pitches from a pitching machine.  1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers will receive awards.  Register the day of the derby.  Fee is $3.00 per person.  This is for ages 9 - 12 years.

Community Dances


Have fun with your friends while enjoying your favorite tunes, food and dancing to “Live Bands”. This experience is a fun way to exercise and meet new friends.  Community Dances will be held throughout the Fall/Winter.  Call 223-0386 for additional information.


There will be an admission charge at the door to cover the cost of the band. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!





Thursday Card Players


If you are looking for a good game of cards, fun and conversation, come down to Buck Run on Thursday evenings and join in with the  Card Players as they play the night away from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

This is a free weekly event to anyone that wants to either play cards, drink coffee, eat snacks, or just socialize.



Breakfast Bingo


Come drink some coffee and play some bingo at Buck Run.  Staff will provide the bingo cards, the caller and coffee.  Prizes provided by the Fort Scott Recreation Commission.

 Dance Lessons  - Tuesday Evenings


Ted Koller will instruct adult dance lessons on Tuesdays beginning September 20th. A different dance step will be taught at each class. A fee of $5.00 per person will be charged per month to help pay forr a band held at BRCC on Saturday evenings. 


Beginners -      7:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.

Intermediate - 8:15 p.m. - 9 p.m.






 Ask the staff at BRCC about checking out Shuffle board and/or Ping Pong Equipment. Available at the front desk at BRCC.  This can be played at no charge with a $3.00 deposit.
