NO School!                                        NO Problem!

The Fort Scott Recreation Commission is offering activities for the youth to enjoy while they are out of school.  Staff will supervise and organize the game or activities for the youth to get exercise, socialize and have fun!  These activities will take place on Oct 19th, Jan 21st, Feb 18th & March 8th. Any boy or girl (ages 7  - 12 years) are invited to participate.  A supervisor will organize the participants and divide up the teams where everyone will receive equal amount of playing time.  Parents do not need to be present for these activities.  Fee is $1.00 per person! The events will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 noon each date.

 

 

Oct. 19th - Pickle Ball at the Outdoor Courts

Jan. 21st - Indoor Whiffle Ball @ BRCC

Feb. 18th - Dodgeball @ BRCC

March 8th - Kickball @ BRCC or Fisher South Field

 

 

37th Annual Spelling Bee

 

Saturday, March 2nd

 

 

This friendly competition is for 1st through 5th graders.  Preliminary rounds will take place in individual classrooms.  The top spellers in each classroom will meet for the final round in the Buck Run Community Center Auditorium.  This challenging activity is set for Saturday, March 2nd, beginning at 1:30 p.m.  Call 223-0386 for additional information.

 

 

Snow Sculpture Contest

 

Once the snow begins to fall………. build a snowman, a sculpture or whatever comes to mind.  Take a picture of it, get it developed and bring it to Buck Run to enter in a contest.  Individuals can enter as many pictures as they like.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 winners.

 

The contest will end on March 15th. Pictures will be judged during the week of spring break.

 

 

 

 

Holiday Crafts!

 

The Fort Scott Recreation Commission and the Fort Scott Middle School Pride  are offering the following craft programs for pre-schoolers - 5th Grade.  These programs are designed for the youth to construct basic crafts using their hands.  Each workshop will be held at the Buck Run Community Center and have various craft projects, face painting, snacks and drinks.  Please pre-register at the Buck Run Community Center to allow for adequate supplies.  A $1.00 registration fee will be charged for each participant.

Pumpkin Carving Contest & Halloween Games

 

Tuesday, October 30th (6 p.m. - 8 p.m.)

 

Get into the spirit of Halloween with this special event.  Each adult/child team will pick their very own pumpkin to carve.  Prizes will be given for the scariest, most unusual and funniest  pumpkin. Contest is set for Tuesday, October 30th from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. At 8 p.m., pumpkins will be lit and displayed as the judging will begin.  Pumpkins, candles, and carving knife will be provided.  This program is for youth 3 - 12 years & adult partner.  Fee is $3.00 per team/pumpkin.

 

Along with the Pumpkin Carving, youth will be able to play various Halloween games such as treat walk, fish pond, pick a duck/frog, ring toss, etc. Bracelet to play games will cost $2. per person.

23rd Annual Turkey Shoot

 

Sunday, November 18th

 

Shoot free-throws and win a turkey to enjoy for your Thanksgiving dinner.  Kids - grab a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian for this chance.  Each child and adult will shoot 25 free-throws each. The adult/child team scoring the highest in each age group wins a turkey!  Pre-registration is necessary.

 

AGES: K - 8th Grade & Partner

TIME: 1:00 p.m.

FEE: $2.00 per team

LOCATION: BRCC

 

Entry Fees collected will be donated to the Adopt-a-Child program to help provide a great

Christmas for the youth that may be less fortunate

 

BRCC Mega Garage Sale

 

Saturday, September 22

 

The staff at BRCC invite you to join in on the biggest garage sale in town.  Spots will be available for sale in the Corey Dale Larson Gymnasium for $20.00.  Each spot will be 20’ X 20’ and include 4  (eight) foot tables.  Bigger items will not be accepted.  Individuals must set up their area and dispose of their items at the end of the sale.  Garage sale will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m. on September 22nd.  Interested individuals will be able to set up their table(s) on Friday, September 21st between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m..  To reserve a spot, come by BRCC, fill out a reservation form and pay your fee.  There will be a maximum of 3 spots per individual. All proceeds from the sale of the rental spots will go to the Adopt-a-Child program during the holidays!

 

 

Fort Scott Zombie Chase/Werewolf Attack

5K Run/1Mile Walk


Gunn Park, Fort Scott, Kansas

Participants are encouraged to dress in Zombie or Werewolf costumes and bring a flashlight. A glow in the dark “Zombie Chase” shirt will be available to purchase for an additional fee when pre-registering.  Registration the night of the event will begin at 10 p.m., with the race to follow at 11 p.m. Participants will begin at Shelter # 5 and run/walk through historic Gunn Park.   Age division include 16 & Under, 17-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60+. Medals will be awarded to the top Male and Female finishers in each division.  Fees are $20 per runner if registered by Friday, October 19th.  A glow-in-the-dark Zombie Chase/Werewolf Attack T-shirt will be available to order for an additional $10. that will be available at the event if ordered by Oct. 19th.

Bring out the whole family to Gunn Park and experience an old fashion Christmas!  Take a  ride through the park, have some hot chocolate, cider, or decorate some cookies.  Kids can also make a craft, visit Santa and listen to carolers.  Come out and enjoy this joyous event and get into the holiday spirit!  This event is free!!!

Community Dances

 

Have fun with your friends while enjoying your favorite tunes, food and dancing to “Live Bands”. This experience is a fun way to exercise and meet new friends.  Community Dances will be held throughout the Fall/Winter.  Call 223-0386 for additional information.

 

There will be an admission charge at the door to cover the cost of the band. Snacks and refreshments will be provided!

 

DANCE LESSONS WILL BE HELD BEFORE EACH DANCE BY TED KOLLER.

 

 

Thursday Card Players

 

If you are looking for a good game of cards, fun and conversation, come down to Buck Run on Thursday evenings and join in with the  Card Players as they play the night away from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

This is a free weekly event to anyone that wants to either play cards, drink coffee, eat snacks, or just socialize.

 

 

Breakfast Bingo

 

Come drink some coffee and play some bingo at Buck Run.  Staff will provide the bingo cards, the caller and coffee.  Prizes provided by the Fort Scott Recreation Commission.

 

Days:   2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month

Time:    9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Cost:    Free 

 

 Dance Lessons  - Tuesday Evenings

 

Ted Koller will instruct adult dance lessons on Tuesdays beginning September 20th. A different dance step will be taught at each class. A fee of $5.00 per person will be charged per month to help pay forr a band held at BRCC on Saturday evenings. 

 

Beginners -      7:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.

Intermediate - 8:15 p.m. - 9 p.m.

 

 

 

 

SHUFFLEBOARD/PING PONG

 Ask the staff at BRCC about checking out Shuffle board and/or Ping Pong Equipment. Available at the front desk at BRCC.  This can be played at no charge with a $3.00 deposit.
